Three Awards from Adana Film Festival

Something Useful has received “Best Screenplay” (Pelin Esmer & Barış Bıçakçı), “Best Cinematography” (Gökhan Tiryaki), and “Best Actress” (Başak Koklükaya) awards in 24th Adana Film Festival.

“Something Useful” received the “FIPRESCI Award”

The 36th Istanbul Film Festival, organised by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV), announced the winners of its competitions at an award ceremony held at Soho House İstanbul on Friday evening, 14 April.

“Something Useful” directed by Pelin Esmer has won the FIPRESCI Award in National Golden Tulip Competition and received her award from Klaus Eder.This year, the FIPRESCI Jury was headed by Klaus Eder from Germany, and included Alberto Castellano from Italy, Ofer Liebergall from Israel, Ladislav Volko from Slovakia and Abbas Bozkurt and Evrim Kaya from Turkey.

“Something Useful” will be released in 2017


After receiving international recognition for her films The Play (2005), 10 to 11 (2009) and Watchtower (2012), Pelin Esmer has completed her fourth feature film Something Useful with a co- production between Turkey-France-Netherlands-Germany.

Pelin Esmer has written the script with Barış Bıçakçı, a Turkish writer who is well-known with his novels “Our Grand Despair” and “After Gliding Parallel to the Earth for Some Time”.

Something Useful got supported by Turkish Minisrty of Culture, CNC, World Cinema Fund and Netherland Film Fund-Hubert Bals script development and production support. Beside these supports, the film has been invited to “Holland Film Meeting” and “Paris Co-Production Village” co-production and project development markets.

The film is produced by Pelin Esmer and Marsel Kalvo staring Başak Köklükaya, Öykü Karayel ve Yiğit Özşener, filmed on Istanbul, İzmir and Ankara-Izmir Blue train. The film is due to be released in 2017
